MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My teaching philosophy derives from my own experiences and talking with friends and their personally experiences. Obviously, this will have changes, but as a core value most wont. I believe in engaging my class, bringing a passion and love for the subject is really what draws students and keeps their focus on the material. So I am going to school to be a History teacher for middle school and high school students. History is that subject where a few students love and most hate. So when I become a teacher I want to bring a passion of teaching to my students. Even if that means them saying, "I hate history but I love going to Mr. Claflin's class because he makes it enjoyable and easier to understand. he makes history come alive and it makes it that much better and easier to grasp." I would love comments like that, I think most would.
I believe in hands on teaching, visualization of the subject. In school, when I can see a picture of something, my brain is able to recognize and save that image and im able to store information under that Picture. Example: Show a picture of the battle of Gettysburg, then you put information under, July 1-3 1863, Turning point of the Civil War, around 50,000 casualties, etc... presenting almost a live look at the past. Now that doesnt mean just showing videos and movies for class, but having a healthy dosage. Lecturing and adding pictures and short videos to keep the flow, changing up an average class style, and mixing up styles to keep the material and the students fresh. In high school, I can look back and remember teachers who I learned the most and retained the material the best because of the attitude that their class brought to their teaching. This page will be expanded as I grow as a future teacher.
