tech tools 5

Soundcloud is an website that has millions of different tracks of music, recordings, documentaries on tape etc. It connects millions of people all across the globe, where people can listen and create their own tracks and playlists. You can view my profile at https://soundcloud.com/stream or just look up clafdaddy39. I created a playlist of Civil War songs and recordings in a playlist. here is the link to access it. https://soundcloud.com/you/sets

As a teacher, I would use this app in a similar fashion with that of youtube, but instead of showing videos, i would be playing audible tracks or recordings. Students could use soundcloud to turn in projects, create and upload their own music, and listen to their peers projects/tracks to network. As a teacher i could use soundcloud for resource in various ways. I could use to have students turn in projects, play tracks or playlists in class, create my own playlists, I could use to administer homework to my students as search engine, even though that is the most reliable source, My students are already going to have a sense of social networking just from their everyday lives, soundcloud just becomes another tool they can network with and also use it for educational purposes. Anyone can create and use soundcloud to publicly share their music or recording, so yes, students can create tracks just as easily as teachers.  Soundcloud is very accessible for anyone, but their are challenges. One must have a sense of how to create music or audible on their computer to be able to upload to soundcloud.

Here is the link one more time to soundcloud, soundcloud.com

tech tools 4

As a teacher, films and videos, i feel, should always incorporated into your lessons. Videos bring a new feeling to the classroom and changes the ordinary flow of teaching.Finding videos and movies to show in class can be tedious, but not anymore. Using Youtube, can be the easiest way and most effective way to show videos in the classroo m. There are millions of videos uploaded onto Youtube.com and you can find videos ranging from The Causes of the American Civil War to music and dress of the 17th century France.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkmMYUcixhA Here is the a link to a video documentary on the Battle of Gettysburg. You can access anything you need from youtube.

I love youtube. I have been using Youtube since it first came out and I will continue to use when I have my own classroom in the future.I could use Youtube in various ways. I could use it for accessing videos and movies, students could upload presentations and projects to youtube for easy access and also so they could all watch each others videos, share their videos with their families and friends, and using youtube is much less time consuming then going to a library and renting a documentary, you could do it from the convenience of your home or phone. I would use this tool in my classroom because of the accessibility, efficiency, and because how easy youtube is to use. My younger cousins know how to access it. Students can use youtube in a couple different ways. They could create their own videos, as well as teachers can, and upload them to youtube, they could also use youtube to watch other students videos or watch specific videos that I have chosen to show. example: I could give all the students the link to a video that i want them to watch for tomorrows lesson as homework that way I wouldnt have to waste time in the classroom showing them a video that they could access on their own.

a love story: the story of Hosea and the rescue of Gomer, Hosea Chapter 3

" The Lord said to me, Go show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an adultress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes." 2. So I brought fer for fifteen shekels of silver and about a homer and a lethek of barley.3. Then I told her,' you are to live with me many days: you must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man and I will live with you. " 4. For the Israelites will live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred stones, without ephod or idol, 5. Afterward the israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. they will come trembling to the Lord and to his blessings in the last days....

The story of Hosea and Gomer is one of the greatest love stories of all time, because it is but a taste of the same love God has for his creation.

I wonder what that was like...Homer go find her..go find your wife who is back in prostitution and is with a lover who is not you, she is an adultress, but I want you to go find her and bring her back. Where did Hosea have to go? He didnt go into the nice, pleasant places of town...he didnt go to white collar part of the city, no...she isnt going to be there, she is in the place where "good" people dont go..men of God dont go, but Hosea went, he searched, and he found her. He saw her, probably chained, naked, beaten, and he said that is my wife! and I am here to get her back...but it wasnt that easy..there was a price to be paid, "I dont care who you are this is the price for her" so Hosea paid it in full, on the spot.

God did this to show Hosea the Love of God, he used Hosea as an example. God loved his people, even though they had turned their backs to God. They belonged to me, God, but they have turned away from me in search for life in the things of the world....Israel said " God youre great, but we have found something better, living in obedience to you isnt doing it for us anymore, and we have found something better...." This is a prophetic vision of God's love for us. His creation turned away from God, but he sent his son to be the payment for our sins...he sent his son to die for us and pay our payment so that we might turn back to God. That is the love of God. He loves his creation who has turned their backs completely from him, but he still loves them....and I love them so MUCH!! That he paid for in blood, the only way to buy us back....In the way Hosea searched to bring his wife back, Jesus searched to bring us, the lost, the broken, sinners, to give us Salvation because of his amazing grace and love. God had to pay for what already belonged to him, so that he could have relationship with us again...this is the amazing Love of God. God asked " what is the price" and he sent Jesus to pay it in full. The story of Hosea and Gomer is an amazing depiction of the love of our Savior.

Networked Professional learning: productivity

Teacher productivity is key concept when it comes to your personal success on dealing with the time of in the classroom and outside the classroom. For me personal, I wouldnt be the one who used all five tools to help with time, but I definitely could see myself using one or two of them. the first one I could see myself using is rescue time. A tool to keep you focused and on task and shows you how much time you spend doing certain activities. I know I can become distracted easily trying to do 10 things at once...but with rescue time, this tool will force me to stay on task at a time instead trying to multitask. The other tool I could see myself using is Springpad tool for organization. one can never be too organized, especially as a teacher. I could have a personalized organizing system that i created to help me for my own style of  organization. Organizing notes, lectures, images, videos, musics, grades, tests/quizzes, all of it, into a simpler way to hold my teaching stuff.
Those two tools are ones that I would personally use as a teacher in the future. They could make my life easier and give me more time to focus on life's more important aspects.

thoughts more on blended learning.

This post will be more about on how I will use blended learning for when I become a teacher. Being a History teacher I can see both positive and negatives to having blended learning in my classroom. Days in which I plan on showing movies or days in which I am not physically able to be there, mainly due to sickness, in having the blended learning, my students and I wouldnt feel as if we missed a day of class due to my lack of appearance. They would be able to access notes, videos, lectures online and wouldnt have to do tedious busy work for the day. On the other hand, it could be negative because lessons, notes, lectures etc. could create a class where some students are farther ahead or behind because of the lack of face to face instruction. Yes, we can say well if they want to learn they will participate or they will suffer, but I feel as if over time, students, will begin to tune out of online obligations and I just feel that personal this could create problems in teaching students. I just dont want my students to spew out facts and never remember a thing, I want my students to understand significance of major historical events. Doesnt mean that they will know every detail of the Civil War, but know why the Civil War was immensely crucial to the country 150 years ago and today.
So i can see blended classes working and being effective, but I still feel, for me personally, that face to face needs to be at least 75% or higher of the time.

Blended Learning

So has you can tell, i am not the biggest advocate of blended learning, having both in class and online class mixing together to create one blended class, but thinking about it much more and trying to destroy the walls that I have built up, I am seeing how much a blended class can be effective to the newest generation. I have a 9 year old niece and I love her to death. She can do much more with my smart phone than I can...she knows how to share photos, use apps that I had no idea existed. To me she is a wizkid with technology, and thinking about her education more I have come to realize that blended learning is not so evil after all haha. Yes, do I believe the most effective way of teaching is face to face, yes but not every student benefits from that. Each person is different in ways they learn the most effectively, and blended learning gives more options to students for more expansive ways to learn and grow!

FInal review of Paleo! final review of my major project

Hey everyone, so this is my final review of the paleo diet as way to better your nutrition and to lose weight, that is why people go on different diets, lets be honest to lose weight. So I did the best I could for 4 weeks to stay on this diet while traveling for baseball so much.

Honestly I loved! I feel great! I have actually maintained my weight at about 188 lbs, and i do not know if i have lost any percent of body fat, but I do feel like I am in great shape and healthy because of what I ate during this time. I really recommend this diet to anyone! I will say this again shortly but this is strict, demanding diet, but with staying on plan and working out regularly you will see results quickly.

So lets talk about what I did and did not like about this diet, my thoughts on the diet and my advice to others who would be interested in this eating program.
What I liked about eating paleo: It tastes great! most people think because it is so simple that it cant taste good, but thats not true. Eating so clean tastes great and I found various recipes to try that were paleo friendly. Eating steak or chicken with just veggies and fresh fruits tastes great because the natural juices from the fruits and the meat mix to create an awesome flavor, free of processed additives,
I did not like is the strictness, and that is everyone's biggest complaint but it is also why it is such a successful eating plan. It is a tough, in that regard, but once your body gets used to the new changes in your diet, it becomes easier to say no to junk food and say yes to eating a banana instead.

I do recommend this diet to anyone wanting to burn fat and build lean muscle or just wanting to challenge themselves. It takes preparation, meal preparation is the best way to stay on task, that and determination.
Eating nothing but fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, meat, and eggs seems boring, but I loved it! and I plan on continuing to eat paleo throughout summer! If you like to ask any questions about Paleo or my story with it, comment down below! take care, love Casey

blogging prompts for teacher candidates; personal(professional) habits for technology use

What will your life look  with technology outside of the classroom, will you maintain a digital footprint or leave it? I choose this prompt because it is actually something that I will asking myself at the end of this semester.I find myself not changing much as a digital landscape even with a busy schedule. I will maintain this blog for some time after this class ends. As a daily/weekly schedule, I would say that technology/social media is a big part of my week unconsciously. I dont realize how much time I spend on social media unless something told me exactly, so I would say that i spend a fair amount of time on technology/social media. Honestly,  I dont follow any blogs, i just dont have the time for it...I use technology in my everyday learning through researching random subjects on the internet, music, projects. Twitter and facebook has become my news feed for what is going on in the world. I am very careful about what I say and post on social media because i know that one day people will look it up to check me out. Being smart and using common sense and not emotion is the safest way to make sure what youre posting is safe. I will make sure that I keep up with the technology trend in education by talking with others and just being more away of the growth and adaption of technology daily, because technology is new everyday.I have used google dox for a few projects while i have been in college and find them very ,very useful as a tool for group efforts! Yes, i believe that education needs to be face to face, and the addition of technology can bring flare and new learning opportunities, but too much technology definitely draws away from learning because it either becomes a distraction or it just simply isnt teaching anything.
Here is a picture of my breakfast this morning! the Paleo is hard but you will soon find out how delicious fresh fruit is!! Next week i will be posting a review of the paleo diet, even though I already kinda did that i will be posting another one!

diet tip of the week!

hey everyone! so this weeks diet tip is dont eat any carbs after 9pm.Those late night snacks are fun to eat but not the best if you are trying to burn calories. When you are sleeping your body actually burns a lot of calories through your metabolism alone, but after 9 pm your body's "clock" knows that it is time to start slowing down and when you eat carbs it takes a lot of work to burn carbs off. so what exactly does this all mean casey? im glad you asked! this just means that your body has to do more work to burn off those carbs but if it becomes a regular thing your metabolism will slow down and stop burning those calories. so a late night snack isnt a bad thing, but it could possibly lead to something that isnt the healthiest. Making small healthy decisions throughout the day, lead to big results!

Diet tip of the week

Diet tip of the week! Peanut butter is good for you! but in the right amounts. The fats in it can be both  good and bad, but if you eat an organic peanut butter with fewer ingredients. My mom  found Jiff reduced fat peanut butter and it tastes great!! If you want to eat peanut butter but still want to eat healthy try reduced fat peanut butter instead of regular.

paleo update

Hey everyone, so here is an update on my paleo diet update....being on the road so much and traveling constantly makes it very hard to eat healthy, let alone a very strict paleo, healthy diet...so the last week didnt go so well....and this week has been much better because of break. I love eating paleo, but it is very hard. It is however worth it.

Tip of the week!

here is a diet tip of the week! Diet drinks are necessarily better for you. actually most can be worse. Diet drinks contain a substance called aspertain, a sugar substitive, that is actually very bad for you. So if you can stay away from diet drinks I would suggest to! tune in next week for another diet tip of the week

week 3!

soo this is my third week of the diet and I am sad to inform you that hasnt gone the best...with traveling so much this weekend and this week my only options to eat are not really the "healthiest" then I came home and my mom had bought low fat frozen yogurt...and i was too weak to deny it. But this morning I ate well and hopefully I will be able to get back on it because my body just feels different when I dont eat Paleo. even in just two weeks, your body adjusts to your diet. So know that if you start a diet or any eating regiment, your body adjusts to it much faster than you think it does.

Below is a link to paleo recipes that are easy and great tasting! I will be trying one of them next week

Today for lunch we went to golden corral and i said that I would be posting pictures of what I ate. The picture may be a little burly... but it was bourbon chicken, italian sausage, pulled pork, spinach, and a bowl of fruit including raisins, cantaloupe, and manderin oranges. I had about three plates and it tasted great and I felt great also!! Eating healthy when you go out can be hard but it is doable!! you just have to be selective. When we go to these buffets I have eaten mostly fruit, veggies, and then lots of protein. You can eat healthy and eat out! Stay tuned fam! join in next week when I give some new fitness tips to help with the new diet to really increase your results!

Paleo diet week 2!

This is week 2 of my paleo diet and I ate great until getting on the road yesterday for baseball....but i ate well today and will later today and the rest of the weekend! Cheat meals are something you can have! but you have to watch how much cheat meals you have. I allow myself about 1-2 cheat meals a week.  They are actually good for you because what the bad food does is tell your metabolism to get to work. When you are eating a healthy diet, especially the paleo diet which is very strict, your body actually gets used to your diet so the cheat meals tell your body to get up and get working to burn off the bad junk you have just eaten! Definitely felt it last night lol. It felt like there was a fire in my abs haha. it sounds weird but it is true, but you have to control your cheat meals if you have to many then your metabolism will slow down and will not be able to catch up. Today we are going to golden corral for food before our game tonight, and i will post how you can eat healthy at a buffet!

picmaker review cont.

Picmaker could be used in the classroom by students for projects, presentations, creating digital artifacts, and presentations for teachers as well. As a teacher, I could see myself using picmaker to tough up photos that might need some restoration. If you a historical piece that you can not bring into the class, you can take a photo and make the photo be more livelier for the students. Picmaker allows you to do so much more than just the average picture detailing in ordinary system. This app allows you to add borders, frames, distort images, and add colors plus so much more!Challenges that could arise from using picmaker could distract students, getting to focused all on of the extras that it distracts from the image you are trying to present.
Here is the link to picmaker! you are going to need google chrome to access it.

Picmaker review with breakfast image!

So I have been playing around with the Picmaker tool from the chrome store and once I figured it out i created a pic of my breakfast this morning!! This is a pretty simple example but I enjoyed the color scheme and thought this looked the best!! Picmaker is simple once you get the hang of it and you can make some very cool looking pictures using it! you can change almost everything about it. i will definitely using it again this weekend when I post some more images of my meals.

Paleo diet first week

So its been almost a week since I started the Paleo diet and I am actually enjoying it! But I tell you what it is hard to start out of the blue. especially when you go to cracker barrel and outback for dinner for meals....but I stayed strong and ate salads!! today when I got meal money I found a supermarket while I was walking, God provided in just a cool way, but yeah I went to food lion, just like acme or giant eagle, and bought dried pineapples and cranberries, fresh strawberries, carrots, a naked juice type drink by bolthouse farms, and some Oscar mayer deli fresh chicken all for 20 dollars and I will eat it for 2 meals! even though it doesn't sound like a lot I ate a little less than half or just about half and will be eating the rest shortly. But I am even a little full from it...and trust me I eat a lot...but seriously! you don't need bread and potatoes and processed food to fill you up. natural sugars and natural carbs are better! ive learned that fruits like pineapples, strawberries etc. can have up to 8x the amount of carbs as whole grains and starches. I ate a lot of rice and chicken early in the semester and really liked my results so I think the only change I will make after this is allow for small amounts of brown rice and oatmeal but we will see(: fitness type of the week. you don't need to spend 2 hours at a gym to have a good workout. have your 5-6 lifts but do them quickly and at a good pace. Keeping your cardio going while maintaining a fast pace will increase performance, efficiently, and muscle growth and development and you can do it in 45 minutes to an hour.

Major Project

So for my major project for my #UAEDtech class im doing nutrition and fitness and so I thought It would be a good idea to start a new diet instead of just posting healthy diet tips!
So I am starting the Paleo diet a.k.a. the Caveman diet and will be posting my results as well and how I enjoy it. likes and dislikes.
here is the link to the website that I will be using for my diet. thepaleodiet.com

So what is the paleo diet exactly? Well it is primarily based on the foods that you need to stay away from more so then the foods you need to eat.
The foods you eat are:                                      foods you don't eat:
grass produced meats                                         Cereal grains
fish/seafood                                                        Legumes including peanuts
fresh fruits and veggies                                      dairy
eggs                                                                    Refined sugar
nuts and seeds                                                    potatoes
healthy oils                                                        processed foods
                                                                          salt
                                                                          Refined vegetable oils

The premise of the diet is to lose weight or burn fat(my goals) and to build lean muscle. I am very excited to try this diet! And I will be posting results after the 4 weeks are up.

Keeping it simple

For my project I am learning more about nutrition and fitness. Both of these topics I have been using  for 50me personal seriously over the past few months.

this post is going to be about fitness!
One thing that I have learned that builds the best foundation for success is.... keep it simple! If you are starting off in a routine of working out and getting in shape take it slow. Its a marathon not a sprint. Your muscles need a little time to be able to recover and once your muscles have been used to moving and expanding the muscle fibers, you are building muscle fatigue or simply your muscles are getting in shape and have the ability to recover quickly.

You don't need to join a gym and spend hundreds of dollars to build a foundation for getting in shape. start slow! Pushups, situps, and running. eating right, and staying discipline! so here is a good easy start off workout per week. these are weekly numbers that you should split throughout the week. Depending on your fitness level to begin.
anywhere from 25-50 pushups a day. 50-100 sit ups or favorite core exercise, and to two and run 2-3 miles for the week. and remember NOTHING CAN OUTTRAIN A HEALTHLY DIET. if your diet is unhealthy, you will never see the results you want. Start simple and build up to a solid workout routine.

Porn kills, but Jesus Saves.
Romans 6:23" For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus"
I was once dead in my sin, but by the Grace of God I am now alive in Christ.

the Grace of God

So today I traveled with my baseball team down to South Carolina and I read a decent amount of scripture but also read a good chunk of a book by Judah Smith entitled "Jesus is___" and most of what I read today was on Grace. You may wonder why I capitalized the G in grace, and that is because the Grace of God is unlike anything in this world we could ever imagine. His own love is so great that nothing in the universe compares to it, that is why a life in relationship to God, through Jesus Christ God incarnate, is the greatest thing one could ever have in life. Philippians 3:7-8. But I thought a lot about that today driving down here, that's what you do when you have long bus rides, long deep talks with yourself, so I read and developed more on the love and grace of God. Talk about a topic that has layers and layers of greatness and amazingness as you unfold the layers!! It started with the gospel. The good news that Jesus came in the image of God, not to condemn the world but to save the world. So he died, became a sin offering so that we might become the righteousness. Jesus took mine and your place on the cross and died the death that we should have died, experienced the wrath of God, he bore our sins in his body so that we might not have to. 1 Peter 2:24 is one verse that is the gospel or the meaning of the gospel. The love of God, the love of Jesus Christ is what saved my life about a year ago. The Love of God is the Grace of God. For it is by grace you have been saved through faith.- ephesians 2:8 I am the prodigal son, the adultress woman...who deserves condemnation...but Jesus steps in front of me and says "no, I don't condemn and no one else does" because there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus! That is Romans 8:1 and how amazing that is!! Because the perfect love of Christ casts out all fear of condemnation because if you are in Christ you have embraced the amazing gift of grace for yourself. Post to be Continued.

Here are 5 Nutrition tips that I have either been told or have thought of myself...which means other people have thought of them too...but nevertheless these are tips that I use for myself and I wouldn't tell you them.

5. Drink plenty of water. I try to drink about a gallon of water a day. yes that is a lot but your body needs to stay hydrated and the fullness feeling of water helps you say no to candy bars and junk food.
4. Read the nutrition labels and pay attention to the Serving size portions! A serving size for me is usually larger than what the label says so I have to pay attention to how much more I am eating compared to the serving size.
3. Color is a good thing. Having meals with many bright colors means youre probably eating healthy...now that doesn't mean different colored potato chips or junk food is good. I am talking about having salads and putting fresh fruits or other veggies in it.
2. Stay away from processed food the best you can. I realize we live in America where everything seems like it is processed, but you can do it! Eating chicken breast from the fresh meat section instead of frozen prepackaged chicken patties. Making meals yourself is a large part of this. Think "keep it simple"
1. A cheat meal every 2  weeks or so isn't a bad thing, in fact it can be good. Your body adjusts to your diet after a couple weeks of it and a "bad" meal tells your body it needs to work hard to digest and burn it naturally through your metabolism.

But remember this...nothing can out train a unhealthy diet. It doesn't matter how much you workout or run or whatever...if your diet is unhealthy so will your results. I saw the best results in myself when my diet was on track with my workouts. Your diet is the most important aspect of getting your body is shape.

"Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore."-Psalm 125:1-2.
I entitled my blog In the Midst:A Life in Surrender for a couple reasons. In California, there is a Pastor who has a daughter who is in her third battle with brain cancer and this past summer he had a sermon series about life and each of his sermons were about going trials and struggles, hard times and how to and why need to look to the Lord for strength and guidance. Trusting the Lord when your world has gone from bad to worse. So I got a some encouragement in that department, but I chose the title because no matter who you are, no matter what you do, and no matter where you are, we always in the middle, in the midst of something. That is a characteristic that we all share, even though we don't think so. The heroin addict in California and the school teacher in Vermont have this commonality, that is that they both are "In The Midst", ahhh see what I did there...just kidding but seriously, they are both in the middle of something. Those stages of what were are dealing with are different for every person because we are different people, what the heroin addict is dealing with is probably not the same as the school teacher, but that doesn't mean they in different worlds.

We are all in different stages in life, have different interests, and different personalities, but we have a few things in common: We are all on a journey and that journey has twists and turns we never saw coming. We are all in the midst of something whether that is a time of peace and joy or a time of pain and sorrow. So remember, this life is a journey, with many different paths, but keep in mind that everyone else is on their own journey as well, in the midst of one of life's paths. -Casey

Welcome!

Thank you for checking out my first ever blog! Lets get right into it. My name is Casey Claflin and this blog was created for one of my education classes. I am an open person, but for this being the first post I wont give everything about myself away, we will try to create a mysterious persona if you will.

I love the outdoors, taking nature walks, hiking, exploring/ adventuring, all of those activities are passions of mine! For me, there is nothing better than hiking through the woods and reading Psalms out of the Old Testament. I love poetry, yeah and I am a guy...weird right?.. but I love poetry and writing my own poems, I am not great yet but I am getting there. I love music as well! My favorite is worship, but I have a cadre of different styles to match different moods. I am a history and a Lord of the Rings fanatic....don't call me names just yet, but yes I love history. I grew up in an education television based viewing home. While other families watched American Idol or Survivor together, my parents and I watched Jeopardy, The History Channel, The Military Channel, and programs on the Civil War or World War 2. I enjoy reading, I just wish reading didn't take so long, I think I just need to learn to read faster. Physical Fitness is another huge interest in my life because we only have one body in this one life. Most of my postings will be of a collection of these interests and other hobbies!

All this stuff is cool and nice, but the most important thing to me is my relationship with Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. I surrendered my life to the Lord about this time last year, in mid February. I say this because Jesus saves. I will put a link to my testimony later if you would like to read it, but I am not here to try push Jesus down people's throat because that is not love, but I am here to use this blog in a manner worthy of the Gospel and to glorify my God, who is rich in love, to saved me. I am not the man I used to be and I am very grateful for that and its because nothing I did but everything that Jesus did for me. If while reading you have any questions about Jesus or about a relationship with him and what it means to give your life to the Lord, I will more than gladly love to talk!!!

So Welcome! and I hope you enjoy my blog and blog posting!
